There are many rumors out there about the election.  I am writing to tell you what I can about what progress we are making in the process.  I will not tell you everything that is happening because I can not, but what I will tell you is that it all falls down to a 50 - 50 chance.  We are not saying that anyone did anything wrong, but we are saying that the way that elections in RR County are being run is wrong.  It is wrong because the elected officials do not follow the law. Some laws about elections say you Shall do this and you Shall do that which means that YOU WILL DO THIS AND YOU WILL DO THAT. We need to live by the letter of the law in those respects. Others are more directory, which means that this is the general way you need to do this, with the intent of doing it right.  These laws are there to lead us in the right direction, but are vague in many areas, because this is a democracy and democracies are intended to lead the people without binding them. Democracies  are not always perfect, and judges do render political decisions because they are elected.  Appellate judges on the other hand follow the law to the letter, and intent.  Appellate judges do not render political decisions, they render legal decisions!!  Democracies are the best form of government on the entire face of the earth.  Democracies are political, and political always breeds some form of corruption, but the checks and balances of the democratic process always INVOLVES THE PEOPLE to keep the balance. 

     The people in this county have let their voice, which is the main CHECK and BALANCE be silenced, and this has allowed the politicians to "Do it the way they have always done it in RR County,"  The old saying by the politicians that "It may not be right, but this is the way we have always done it." has to change.  It has to change because it IS NOT RIGHT for you, the people.  This has hurt all of you by having "HIGHER VALUATIONS" on your property.  They have raised taxes to the point that some people cannot pay without doing "Without", and they have raised "VALUATIONS" to the point that it has been double and triple tax burdens.  We are seeing glimpses of "CORRUPTION" in the County government, and the few glimpses are "Costing all of us Tax Dollars" in some fashion. 

     The old attitude that some of you have is "If it does not affect me, then I do not care!" has got to change.  It may not affect you now, but in the long run, "It affects ALL of us in the form of HIGHER VALUATIONS, AND HIGHER TAXES.  Higher Valuations from the Appraisal District means more money out of your pocket whether they raise the tax rate or not, and then when they raise your taxes on top of those Higher Valuations, your Tax Bill doubles and even triples.  If they aren't doing that to you, then they are slowly chewing away at you every year raising your valuations, and then slowly eking up your tax burden.

     When you look at the glimpses of Corruption we are beginning to see, does it not make you wonder just where are your HARD EARNED DOLLARS going too?  The old saying "WE ARE DOING THE BEST WE CAN WITH THE LIMITED RESOURCES WE HAVE IN RED RIVER COUNTY!" is an EXCUSE on the part of the Elected Officials for Graff, corruption, and favoritism.  This is why your roads look like they do.  Some roads are good, and others are bad.  You know the reasons for this.  Some people can get response from the RR County government, some can not, and we all know that in this county that it all comes down to WHO YOU KNOW, and whether they really give a damn about you or not!  It is the same here with law enforcement.  It all falls into "WHO" did the crime, and "IF" you are someone who can get by or not riding on the "VV Express."

   We are seeing glimpses of corruption in our justice system and our government and now our elections are in doubt.  That opinion ought to bring you pause, and make you think about our government.  Is our RR County government really working for the people, or is it working for the politicians, and those few who dictate how this county is run?  Is this the type of place that your children will stay after they finish school, or is it just a breeding ground of corruption that they will want to leave?
