See Also 1st. Plea for Help See Also Second Plea for Help! See Also Help Found 77 Yr. Old Inmate
I do not even reside in RRC, but my 77 year old father just got put in jail for an offense that he did not commit. This goes back to the "buddy" system. Val Varley is friends with the person who filed charges and the charges ARE ILLEGAL. My family has talked to other attorneys and law enforcement from other counties and have verified that Val Varley is WRONG. How can a pipsqueak be allowed to do this to a poor old man who has nothing. Even the documents that were faxed from my fathers medical doctor verifying his medical condition, to the sheriffs office, were SOMEHOW LOST in Val's papers. When my family told the Judge and VV that my father was in bad health, their reply was "He looks like he is in no danger!" They also stated, there was a 87 year old man that died in jail after two weeks and his dying had NOTHING to do with his stay in jail. YEAH RIGHT!
VV, I hope you read this! You are such a low life! If you don't pay on earth for what you have done, then I hope you BURN in hell. You may have won the battle, BUT you have not won the war. Kathy

Charges Dropped!
4/11/2007
Today it was announced that the charges against the members of the Duke Lacrosse team, Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty, and David Evans charged with raping a black exotic dancer have been dropped. The members always held that they were innocent, but the Durham District Attorney, Mike Nifong kept pressing forward, even when evidence proving their innocence was found. Today the Attorney General of the State of South Carolina dropped all charges against all three of the accused. Now the District Attorney, Mike Nifong is under investigation, with possible disbarment and criminal charges looming in his future.
This is a perfect example of our County Attorney the "VV Express". Val Varley is a sorry excuse for a prosecutor who is out more to feather his nest with convictions than finding the truth. He is known to hold exculpatory evidence back from criminal defendants and their attorneys that could be used to show the accused innocent. In a recent case, exculpatory finger print evidence was withheld by "VV" showing that there were no fingerprints of the accused in a location that was the direct reason for filing charges against the individual in the first place.
The Duke case should make the good "VV" sit up and take notice that people are getting tired of malicious prosecutions and using informants that are as crooked as the law enforcement officers who fabricate the charges. Prosecutors are charged with finding the "truth" about criminal cases not hastening charges and railroading innocent individuals off to prison.
If you feel that your loved one has been railroaded by the "VV Express", then you need to file a complaint with the State Bar of Texas, and do not stop when the office in Dallas finds nothing, appeal the decision back to Austin. Make him work to answer the complaint. If "VV Express" gets enough complaints filed against him for malicious prosecution, maybe someone will eventually take notice and do something, like disbar his sorry ass!!
The telephone number for the State Bar of Texas, Office of the Chief Disciplinary Council in Austin is 1 877 953 5535. You will have to file your complaint in writing. When you get right down to it, you might as well tell your side of the story to someone. There are enough people here with complaints that if all of you filed them, it could possible get someone's attention.

Well it seems we have another commissioner that likes hanging out at the Courthouse and Sheriffs office. Yes that's right folks you have voted another person in office to do nothing.
Talk is that since Commissioner Barnett has taken office he has spent more time visiting at the Sheriffs office and Courthouse than doing county business on his roads. (At least he's not somewhere taking a nap). Since he has kicked Commissioner Hausler out I assume he will now take up residency there in his place. So if you need to conduct any business with him you may need to call the courthouse or sheriffs office to track him down.
Some things never change.

3/18/2007 Just finished reading the latest on all this mess with VV. I remember when all this was happening. I also remember the "guard dog". Whatever happened to that dog. I also remember around about the same time as VV getting scared, Tim Shimpock got a drug dog also. What happened to that dog. Both dogs were at their "master's" side for quite a while then all of a sudden the dogs were gone. I had heard that each dog cost $5,000.00 each.
Fine way to spend our money huh. I guess VV had to get rid of his dog cause Mark Perkins wouldn't stop throwing McDonalds sausage biscuits into his mouth, and Tim had to get rid of his cause he kept "sniffing his stuff out". HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Read in the paper about a month ago that the County got another drug dog. Now that's 3 dogs. Where are the other 2?
Another way the county spends our money foolishly.

RR County Just-Us System Strikes Out Again!!! 3/17/2007
On March 12, 2007, John Miller 102nd. Judicial District Judge signed an order of dismissal entitled, The State of Texas vs. Dolores Davilia Cortez, Cause No 002CR00144. M. Mark Lesher, jd. represented Mrs. Cortez at the time of the indictment, which appears to have been sometime in 2002. She was alleged to have been the “Madam of the Mexican Mafia”, and the individual in charge of ordering a “capital murder hit” on our local County Attorney Val Varley. Click Here to View the Dismissal Order by Judge John Miller
Either before or after she was indicted, her grandson was indicted and tried, and from best recollection given several years probation on one charge, and a short period of time in the penitentiary for another.
In any event, Mrs. Cortez case has been set for trial a couple of times, but has actually laid dormant for years, because during the grandson’s trial he and all other witnesses acknowledged that Mrs. Cortez had never been involved in anything to do with a “hit” on the County Attorney. The case was referred to the Attorney General’s office of the State of Texas for prosecution, who reviewed the evidence and determined there was no case, and filed the motion to dismiss. Based on that motion, Judge John Miller granted the motion to dismiss, on March 12, 2007 at 3:21p.m..
Mrs. Cortez had to hire a lawyer at her own personal expense for her representation, and paid a lot of money out of her pocket. Being a minimum wage earner at one of the local convenience stores in Clarksville, I am sure this was a great personal strain to her economic situation, and her life. Mrs. Cortez who had been working for years in Clarksville, had absolutely no criminal record of any kind. It is preposterous, and ludicrous that anyone could believe that she was a “Madam” in charge of the Mexican Mafia in this area. Her son was put into a compromising situation with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the jury who heard that case did not believe there was much to it because he got probation, although on another charge, he did get some pen time.
Red River County has spent an inordinate amount of money buying guard dogs for Val, and providing security for his wife and children at the Avery Schools. It is my opinion that Val Varley over reacted 1000 percent when he basically heard rumors that he was going to be assassinated. It was because of his fear, that his office is located on the second floor of the court house annex rather than where it was planned for originally on the first floor of the main courthouse where the County Judge's office is located now. He alluded to me that office was too open to view, and anyone could come and take a pot shot at him at anytime. The case against Mrs. Cortez was a joke, not only of the Just-Us System but also law enforcement. This is a clear example of “jumping to prosecution without sufficient proof”, and also a tremendous waste, not only of the life of a private innocent individual, but tax payer dollars. This is more proof of the injustice of the “VV Express”, and why our taxes in this county are so exorbitant compared to the counties around us.
It seems that we go from one fiasco to another in the Just-Us system of Red River County with the “VV Express” and his fireman Mark Perkins stoking the boiler to lead the charge Rail Roading another innocent citizen to prison. He flatters himself thinking he is such a fine adjudicator and champion of the law, that in his mind he has actually done something of any value to the Citizens of RR County that would bring himself to the attention of the so-called “Mexican Mafia”. It’s certainly doubtful, since a great deal of the common Citizens in the State of Texas have never heard of, or do not know or for that matter care where Red River County is located.
I don’t know about you, but as a competent businessman and taxpayer, I am beginning to wonder when our Honorable District Judges (who are actually supposed to be wearing the robes and running this 3-ring circus) will take the throttle of the “VV Express” and start running the Just-Us system like a court of law, and not like a RailRoad!! How many more dismissals, overturned cases on appeal, and civil rights violation lawsuits will it take for them to stop the stupidity and the injustice of the "VV Express"? Why does our honorable judiciary keep upholding these non-evidenced, overly prosecuted cases in the first place? Why do they continually take the word of law enforcement who are known to break the very laws they are supposed to protect, and ignore common sense reasoning? I personally am extremely doubtful our honorable judiciary is going to grasp the throttle anytime in the near future. It seems “VV’s” efforts are supported by the honorable judiciary of our District Courts with him controlling the courts, rather than the courts controlling him!
I personally am thankful that the County Commissioners have no say-so in appointing a District Judges Position. (For your information folks, District Judges are Elected, and if a vacancy occurs during a term, the Governor appoints a replacement) Just think what it would be like with "VV" as a District Judge. The Jimmie Townsend Decision
3/13/2007
Thank God for hard working attorney's and a God in Heaven that answers prayers to the ones who seek him for an answer to be set free of bogus charges. Can you imagine the pure hell this man has been put through? As well as only God knows how many others have been railroaded out of this town and county, not only on the "V.V. Express" but even before him.
Corruption doesn't get this deep in a matter of a week or months, it has seemed to have festered from years gone by. When this is all said and done I hope everyone that has had a hand in causing Jimmy Townsend hurt will have to answer to our Judicial Systems just as he has had to go through this ordeal to prove his innocence. Perhaps if they get a taste of what it's like to loose everything they have worked for, then and only then will all of Red River County have our freedom as intended by our Constitution.
You know we have had in our past, a county commissioner go to prison for wrong doings. And remember what Judge Lovett's family went through because of corruption. Hey but they stayed with the plan and that deputy got his dues too. My self as others feel if we will all focus on what is right and really band together for the right things our Just-Us systems will fall by the way side .
No one is above the law. And if it takes going through the City of Clarksville to get it through to those all mighty people that they too can check out the prison systems then so be it? They are no better than Jimmy Townsend or anyone else to sit in prison; just different situation.
